A Statement on Artist Statements
Yes it’s now Christmas, and family is asleep in other rooms, and I should be asleep in this room I’m in here in Columbus (GA). But instead I am up thinking about the conversation happening on Jerry Saltz’s* Facebook page regarding artist statements. He posted an update tasking artists to post theirs and he would critique/edit them. Hundreds of responses later (and with the help of a small handful of great pinch hitters), I’m beginning to think I need to take a very non-traditional approach to the revision of my own. Not sure what all that entails yet, but I have a few ideas and will keep you posted. It’s not an easy task by any stretch of the imagination.
One of these days Jerry’s gonna break Facebook due to an over-commented on post. Possible questions that would do that?
*Am I supposed to put an “s” after that “z?”
P.S. If you’re into the Jesus thing, or celebrate Christmas regardless, Merry Christmas! If you don’t, hope you saved me some leftovers!
